Concinnity

Somewhere in a place covered by trees there is a road usually traveled. On that road is a private driveway hidden by shrubbery and wild flowers. The grey gravel road is steep and treacherous, with drop offs towards the ravine on either side. It is just big enough for one car to get up or down, with no shoulder to pull off to. It goes on for miles and miles, cut off from radio, and engulfed in the melody of nature.

At the end of the path there is a white house. The house is surrounded by green on all sides, from the ivy that climbs the walls to the grass that grows uncut and wild about the house. There is moss that creeps up the stone stairs to the patio and trees that have learned to grow around and with the house as if not to disturb its foundation. The house is alone without another of its kind in sight, but it is with its family of trees and vines and shrubs that hold it together and bathe it in green.

Inside the house there is a hall that spans forever, lined with portraits of people from all over the world and their families. It is lit by strange light that can not be placed. And at the end of the hall there is a black door with a brass knob. Turn the knob. Open the door. Find yourself surrounded in whimsy. And there is a rose of flames in a vase of ice, pluck it and watch as everything crumbles around you.

Synopsis:

Alexis does not want change. Nia wants to be free. Nate wants to find a purpose. Jim wants to protect what he knows. Tony wants his family to stay together. And Tori could care less as long as she has a good book.

But Tiana will not back down. Jordan will run from destiny. And Thato will drag them all into the flames with him.

After moving to the south, Alexis wants nothing more than to return to NYC. She wants to be listen to the familiar rhythms of the world rather than the strange ones of this new land. When she meets Jordan Brooks and his two friends, mystery meets her with open arms and calls her to it and its strange land of fantasy and magic. Yet magic can be a terrible thing, and some things are better left sealed and forgotten.

Some notes for this series:

One, Concinnity is defined as “the skillful and harmonious arrangement or fitting together of the different parts of something.” I decided to use this as the name of the series as I anticipate this series being about people coming together. I wanted this to be a deeply personal story, as well as one about people becoming more than what they once were. As such things are going to move extremely quickly.

Two, each book will be told from a different perspective. It will only be that perspective, when telling the main story. Tiana, Jordan, and Thato will never get POV chapters in the present. Thato might have POV chapters from the past but none from the present. I’m not sure if this is even going to be the case either, but do keep it in mind.

This series, as projected by me will be 6 books, or what I will call “books,” long. As of right now the chapter list shown below is the true and planned amount of chapters. I am not anticipating having any more through the course of the story. This means that the chapters will get progressively longer as time goes on. The first book will probably be relatively short in terms of general length, but detailed. The later ones will span the course of days and even weeks for a single chapter. Be prepared.

With that said. Let us begin.

Things I Learned:

Notes on Inspiration:

This came to me as a dream. Most of my plots come to me in that fashion and this one is no exception. I wanted to follow where it went and in the processes I found myself drawn deeper to this messy love story and contemplation on relationships. The small story test that I did, was written under the way I saw the dream more than I think the actual series will address it.
