122 Days Until Perfection And the Uncertain End (part 3)

Zeydar looked to May who stood before him disheveled and then to Shawn who stood as if he hadn’t just been caught making out with May. Zeydar had been walking down the hall. He had been planning to read books, to practice his magic, something. He didn’t remember his initial goal anymore, because when he had turned the corner he found them. Shawn had May pressed up against a door, and she had been clinging to him. He had not made a single sound and was about to turn when May had seen him and shoved Shawn away.

Then she started stumbling and making excuses.

“Listen. I’m not judging.” Zeydar looked to her, stopping her excuses from digging her into a deeper hole. “But are you sure? Shawn?”

“Yes. Me.” Shawn rolled his eyes.

122 Days Until Perfection And the Uncertain End (part 2)

The facility wafted with the odor of humans. Airships had lined the building spanning miles. People moved about creating a cascade of noise bouncing off the walls. Thousands of people were living in the spare warehouses along the strip of land where airships were being transferred. They had what they could carry, enough to fit in their specified storage containers, and nothing more. These people were here to work, and then to move. They had come to assist in fleeing the planet.

“We are currently stocking ships with supplies. New clothes, and the likes.” Alan Penn told Heia as she watched people being checked in. “With the Circles assistance, we have started the transport ships of goods and weapons for all.”

The first thing that was being packed were the ships that would hold food, clothes, instruments, books, documents, technology, and many other things to jumpstart a new economy. Other ships would hold animals and seed for food. Still others would have machinery and equipment along with metal, wood, and other building supplies. There were people being transported all over the world to collect materials and to rip up the remains of the earth before it was destroyed for good. Years of treaties and protocols to protect the planet were being broken for their survival. Each of the ships with human civilization upon them would carry similar things, albeit in smaller numbers. Circles were providing weapons, guns and holoblades, to any who could use them. They were bolstering numbers for the armies and collection groups. The coming battles would need everything they could get for protection.

Karla had requested assistance and Estashia had listened. Things were looking up.

The Costume

When Alexis and Nia arrived at the bowling Alley, Alexis realized too quickly that she was sticking out like a sore thumb. She had pulled some of her curls back and pinned them out of her face. She had decided to go with a pink plaid shirt and blue jean shorts. Nia had thrown on a crop top with her shorts. They had thought that they would fit in.

There were people cosplaying characters from cartoons and others dressed as fantasy races. There were people from shows she knew and more that she didn’t. Everyone was dressed up in some way and they looked at Alexis and her sister like invaders. They did not want Alexis and Nia there. They did not appreciate the two impeding on their space. The worst part was that Nia and Alexis were nerds in their own right. They deserved to be there under normal circumstances, even if they stuck out now. Walking into the hall, Alexis was bombarded with elaborate fantasy music and a scent reminiscent of a forest.

Alexis contemplated leaving for a long moment before she saw Nathan waving her down. He was dressed in a tunic and pants with what looked like chainmail. His bright smile was accented by detailed scale makeup on his face and hands, and a crown upon his hand that glimmered gold. James stood next to him in a more simple outfit with a fake lute on his back. He was dressed in brown linens and slightly elongated teeth and ears. As they got closer, Alexis noticed how he wore cat eye contacts, and his nails were painted black.

“You didn’t tell me it was a costume party!” Alexis hissed when they got close enough.

The Diner

Alexis had an entire summer to stay in this new house and she had not even gone seventy-two hours without finding trouble for herself. She tried to ignore the itch of adventure, by organizing her entire music collection. She placed all her CDs in their racks, the records in their boxes. She organized her racks of cassettes. She checked her record player, her gramophone, her boombox and multiple radios. She organized and organized until there was nothing left to organize. Her walls were a beautiful display of musical players and her mind was no more focused.

The itch of adventure crawled at her skin telling her that it was there and it remembered. She knew that she was not supposed to remember it for some reason. Jordan? Jordan was the cause and the fault and the issue. However the door was whispering at her. come back. help me.

When her phone rang, Alexis thought for a long hard moment. She did not need to go and meet up with the man who had a mysterious long hallway that she couldn’t even remember. But she remembered the door. With each passing minute she remembered the door more. She thought of the black door that seemed to be a blackhole sucking in all light. She thought of the silver handle that was too bright to be old. She thought of the wafting smell of summer that came from under the frame and the fact that there was no keyhole. She could picture the light from the other side, a soft blue that flickered. She had felt so cold, and had wanted nothing more than to open it.

“Are you okay?” Nia asked from the doorway. Alexis’ head snapped up to her sister who was looking at Alexis walls. Alexis’ phone was no longer ringing. Her screen had returned to the image of Tiana holding her blow torch and a bike behind her. She had been fixing something in her shop, casting some sort of metal work. Alexis did not remember now. She had snapped the photo because Tiana looked cool. Nia touched Alexis’ shoulder. “Did you sleep at all? How are you already completely set up?”

Alexis did not want to admit that she had not slept. Tiana had taught Alexis to use power tools and so the installation of her shelves had been easy. She had brainless about it all. She had to focus on something else. She had to think of anything else. She needed… She opened her phone quick and then immediately shut the message. Tiana had messaged her a picture: Up all night. Go to bed. It had been accompanied by a photo of Tiana’s latest project.

122 Days Until Perfection And the Uncertain End (part 1)

Evester looked from Crass to Rayda and then to Karla. Which one was it? Which one of them was the one who had the card. Fingers twitching, Evester pulled a card from Karla’s hand. Her poker face was incredible as he turned the card around to see the joker. Screaming out in frustration Karla laughed.

“Done?” Uly asked halting their game.

“Evester just lost again.” Rayda placed her cards down.

“Not true. I could get it to one of you.” He protested.

“Unlikely.” Karla teased him. Dejected, Evester looked away. He knew she was right.

“What is it?” Crass asked Uly.

124 Days Until Corruption And the Uncertain End (part 3)

When the Cloudcites were first formed there were many laws established to ensure no wars would come to pass should world emergency arise. Of these laws, the bypass leader law or the King’s Rule Act, was voted into existence. The King’s Rule act required specific conditions to be used lawfully. One, the humanity’s survival was brought into question, whether in fear of war, or in fear of destruction. Two, the leader of the council had to declare it, bring it to vote, and get a super majority vote from all other council members. In order to be revoked, a vote had to be reissued to a super majority of the council or a public vote. This made it fundamentally impossible for a King, once established, to be removed. Three, the leader of the World Council became acting King in the matter and, as such, must have been on the council for at least two terms. Four, the decision of the voters could not be forced through black mail or coercion. Five, the public had to be notified as the vote began and the results following. Six, should the King die, the protocol died with them. This was the easiest way to kill a King once the rule was established.

Heia watched the screen uninterested. The World Council meeting was as boring as she expected it to be. The politicians bickered and talked about things that most of them had not seen personally. The X’s were fighting. The Circles were divided. The Stars refused to comment. It was much as how Heia pictured politics worked for them usually. There were no surprises to be had.

“Why isn’t the Prime Minister talking?” Robee asked collapsing down next to Heia.

“He’s fed up with their inaction.” Lynx answered. “Granted it makes sense. I don’t blame him.”

“The votes are beginning.” Onyx spoke quickly drawing their attention to the screen again.

124 Days Until Corruption And the Uncertain End (part 1)

The World Council meeting was everything Zeydar expected. He had watched shows that were dramas about council meetings. He had watched some of the most important meetings for history in classes. Before him were faces of all the Tower leaders, those allied to Estashia and those not. There were the shrouded Superiors cloaked in black and hiding their faces from view of the entire world. The X world leaders showed their faces through screens, including Alan Penn. Estashia stood before them all dress in all white as the meeting facilitator.

“We begin the meeting.” Estashia spoke out calling the meeting to order.

Zeydar sat with Shawn, May, Kony, Phil, and Endwin, prepared to speak to the world on what needed to be done. He wondered if Evester and Heia were watching from their own computers. This meeting was being broadcast to the whole world. It was nothing more than a show for unity than it was to discuss specific matters. Primary matters were handled first: spending, funds, allocations, and news. Then it came to the matter that held the attention of the world: the memorandum on the reinstitution of the Space program, protocols, and immediate evacuation of the human species.

The Door

The cook out itself was nothing special. Alexis had seen all of her aunts and uncles and cousins many times before. Unlike those times, however, she had nothing to do. Most of the cousins had gotten old enough that she had not recognized them at first. They did not remember her. The amount of energy that she expanded in making small talk with them had been enough to light a whole city for a night. As she stood sipping on her orange soda, she wondered to herself if there was a way to escape. She did not even need to escape for long, just long enough.

When Alexis heard Nia calling out to her, she knew that her sister needed the same reprieve. “Do you want to go get some sparklers with me?”

“Sure.” Alexis did not ask if they were selling them this early. She did not doubt her sister. She knew that Nia had come to her for assistance and Alexis wanted the out. Excusing herself from the conversation, the two left their uncle’s house and started down the street. The closest supermarket was about a half an hour walk, but Alexis was not complaining.

126 Days Until Death And the Uncertain End

The videos were edited in a way that Evester’s words not only explained how to predict attacks, but now to take Aralax down with expert skill. They had different examples, angles, slow down and graphics to show the exact angle to strike. They were all practice videos and he reminded others that they needed to practice before they attempted to use the skills. Then he had uploaded them to the EverDanger channel. Evester starred at the comments coming in and the questions that were being asked. He and Karla were in charge of answering questions, not that Evester wanted to do the task at all.

“So many people are responding.” Karla cheered, as she typed away. She had agreed to do all the answers, so long as she was allowed to watch him paint.

He never should have agreed. “Karla. Please…” Evester tried to get her to move so that he could continue to paint. He needed to get paints behind her and she refused to move. It was not until he was practically begging that she giggled and moved out of the way. Grabbing the blues, he turned back to the canvas. He liked his current piece. Somehow Uly’s advice wasn’t a load of crap, and the more he did it, the less he thought about doing dangerous things. Perhaps it was because this piece was about his feelings for Zeydar and working through them was proving to be far more difficult than he wanted, or perhaps it was because he did like the medium.
