Here is the second review for today! This is the end of this saga that just went down hill from the first book until it hit a crashing end. I am floored by how much I did not like this ending. Like, whyyy. Why did this series turn out this way? I am just…
shocked.
and tired.
oh, so tired.
Customary warning: This is a reminder that these are my personal opinions. My thoughts and feelings are not your thoughts and feelings. I may not always be the target audience for a book; sometimes I am. If I do not like a book, that doesn’t mean you’ll dislike it. If I love a book or simply like a book, you may hate it. Take everything I say with this knowledge. If it sounds interesting to you despite what I’ve said, then go ahead and read it. You’ll only know you like something if you read it yourself.
That being said… Spoilers ahead.
Afterlife by Claudia Gray
Synopsis From The Book
Destiny awaits Bianca and Lucas. . . .
Bianca and Lucas believe they could endure anything to be together. When fate transforms Bianca into a ghostly wraith and turns Lucas into a vampire—the very creature he spent his life hunting—they are left reeling.
There is only one place Lucas can turn for help . . . Evernight Academy. But the vampire hunters of Black Cross are still pursuing them, and a final battle between wraiths and vampires looms at Evernight. Bianca and Lucas are facing dangers on every side—sometimes even from their oldest friends and allies. They’ve overcome every obstacle life has thrown at them, but is their love strong enough to survive the challenges after life?

Initial Thoughts Before Reading:
I’m not looking forward to this book honestly. After the trainwreck of the last book, I think this one is going to test me as a human. I really DO NOT like Bianca. I had hope for her, I did. Then she decided to make stupid choices about really important things, and cost many lives. And now I’m just… how? How could
Initial Thoughts After Reading:
I am… I really don’t know what to say about this, because, I expected it. After THAT trainwreck of a vampire became a wraith I expected this. I know for certain that this novel series was not written for me as an ideal audience, which is sad to say. There are a lot of interesting ideas that this series does, but Bianca ruined them all for me.
Plot Overview:
The novel begins with Lucas rising as a vampire. Vic has to leave and Balthazar and Ranulf take Lucas down until Bianca can talk some sense into him. They all go to Vic’s house after getting Lucas some blood, where they find the Black Cross who arrived when they found out that Bianca was dying. They see Lucas and are okay at first until they find out that he is a vampire and all hell breaks loose.
The Black Cross is chased away by the police and the group takes Lucas to Evernight academy for sanctuary. He is granted it. Lucas starts to work with the other students. Bianca shows herself to her friends. On the day of the outing to the town, the Black Cross tries to kill Lucas again and they are stopped. Dana and Raquel defect. Lucas talks with Mrs. Bethany more. Bianca finds out all her powers as a wraith.
Lucas finds out that Mrs. Bethany is planing on using the wraiths to make the vampires living again. Charity is haunting Lucas’ dreams, and Balthazar and Bianca threaten her to go. The wraiths threaten Mrs. Bethany who finds Bianca’s tether and uses it to try to make her human again so she can die to be with her husband. All out war breaks out, and Mrs. Bethany dies. Lucas is poisoned to die, and Bianca saves him. She drinks his blood as he drinks hers and she turns him back to a human again. Evernight is destroyed as a school and everyone has to go their own way. Bianca is still a wraith and she and Lucas plan on living a happy 60+ years together.
What I Liked:
Vic and Ranulf; These two are the greatest duo ever and no one can convince me otherwise. I could read a hundred books on their endeavors. They made me laugh, which was needed with how much I wanted to throw the book otherwise.
Dana and Raquel; They are cute together, and some great characters separately.
Balthazar; Still best boy, who deserves the best. Apparently there is a single novel just for him, that I might need to check out. Maybe I’ll like this world better when Bianca is not the MC.
What I Would Have Liked or Changed:
Bianca; Please just stop. You have such a high body count for someone who is trying to do good. All your choices end in death and I can’t with you.
Lucas; I’m in this boat where I like you and don’t all at the same time. I respect your decision to want to be human, but why Bianca? Why? She is just… I can’t with her.
Rating: 3/5
