Evernight Review

Lol sorry for this coming to you all so late. I did a lot today and this was just not at the top of my list. Anyway! Two reviews

Customary warning: This is a reminder that these are my personal opinions. My thoughts and feelings are not your thoughts and feelings. I may not always be the target  audience for a book; sometimes I am. If I do not like a book, that doesn’t mean you’ll dislike it. If I love a book or simply like a book, you may hate it. Take everything I say with this knowledge. If it sounds interesting to you despite what I’ve said, then go ahead and read it. You’ll only know you like something if you read it yourself.

That being said… Spoilers ahead.

Evernight by Claudia Gray

Synopsis From The Book

Bianca wants to escape.

At the eerily Gothic Evernight Academy, the other students are sleek, smart, and almost predatory. Bianca knows she doesn’t fit in.

When she meets handsome, brooding Lucas, he warns her to be careful—even when it comes to caring about him. But the connection between them can’t be denied. Bianca will risk anything to be with Lucas, but dark secrets are fated to tear them apart . . . and to make Bianca question everything she’s ever believed.

Romance – Paranormal | YA – E |Stalking, Fighting | Coming of Age, Love at First Sight

Initial Thoughts Before Reading:

Another vampire series anyone? I know that I have been waiting to get these off my shelf for the longest time. The time is here, it is now. It is time to read another vampire series. I know absolutely nothing about it, but based on the synopsis, I figure it must be like all other vampire school fics. My copies are really old and from used book stores, so just saying, I don’t have high expectations for this series. Cheers!

Initial Thoughts After Reading:

Well that took me by surprise. And then it was cheesy after that. Is that worth something? I don’t know but I did have a lot of fun with it.

Plot Overview:

Bianca has moved to a boarding school with her parents who are going to be teachers. She does not want to be there and tries to run away when she meets a boy named Lucas. He saves her, thinking she was being chased, and they laugh. He ignores her after that. She gets to know the other students at school and convinces Lucas to talk to her again. After they go on a date, a week when they’re allowed to go to the city and he beats someone up, she does not talk to him. She becomes friends with another girl, and goes to a dance with Balthazar. Lucas finds her, they argue then kiss. And then she bites him.

Bianca always grew up knowing that she was a vampire and about blood and their weaknesses. Biting Lucas was the first time she ever fed from a person and it makes her that much closer to becoming a full vampire. She and Lucas talk, but then Bianca confronts a vampire named Erich, who is stalking her friend, and she threatens him. Lucas sees it. He disappears for the rest of the year. When he comes back at the start of the next term, Bianca and Lucas talk. She tells him the truth and he lets her feed from him again. He starts to begin the symptoms of turning.

Bianca and Lucas tell her family, and through a slip up, Bianca reveals that Lucas had a relative there before. They realize that he is a Vampire Hunter and he flees. Bianca chases after him and decides to run away with him. They spend the night together (just sleeping, nothing else) and Bianca meets his mom. They go to the Black Cross meeting, with the other Vampire Hunters, and then the vampire attack. Bianca is forced to go back with them, so that they will retreat.

The novel ends with Bianca knowing she needs to find out why humans were allowed into the academy, as well as Lucas sending her a letter.

What I Liked:

Bianca; So I do like Bianca. She makes some odd choices and acts a little strange but upon knowing more about her I can forgive her.

Lucas; This guy has some gall, I’ll say that. He went to this school, knowing that they were all vampires. I give him some major props, and he hits all the marks as a cool kid, which is also cool.

Bianca as a vampire and Lucas as a hunter; I wasn’t prepared for this, not truly. A vampire as the girl going to the new school? I was thrown for a loop and you know what? I was okay with it, in fact I rather liked it.

Balthazar; Best boy, he needs more screen time, thanks. He saw Lucas about to explode, backs off and doesn’t make a scene out of it. It was then that I decided he was best boy and no one can change my mind.

Raquel; She is such a sweet girl. I am so sorry that so many things happened to her. She really didn’t deserve to be stalked. I hope she is happy in the future novels.

Vic; This guy reminds me of so many people I’ve known in my life. He’s so chill and nice and I need more of his comedy in the next few books.

Mom and Dad; Look, them being vampires as loving and kind. It is not often that we get that with characters of these types so I did like it.

What I Would Have Liked or Changed:

Romance; Look, Bianca and Lucas were great, but I couldn’t care less for their relationship. I honestly am more curious about the world than either of them, which is why I will read on.
