Dead of Night Review

Alright Second review of the day! Honestly I don’t have much to say about this book. It wasn’t great. Wasn’t bad. It was a meh book for me. So there is honestly nothing much I can say.

Customary warning: This is a reminder that these are my personal opinions. My thoughts and feelings are not your thoughts and feelings. I may not always be the target  audience for a book; sometimes I am. If I do not like a book, that doesn’t mean you’ll dislike it. If I love a book or simply like a book, you may hate it. Take everything I say with this knowledge. If it sounds interesting to you despite what I’ve said, then go ahead and read it. You’ll only know you like something if you read it yourself.

That being said… Spoilers ahead.

Dead of Night by Jonathan Maberry

Synopsis From The Book

Dead of Night (Dead of Night, #1) by Jonathan Maberry

A prison doctor injects a condemned serial killer with a formula designed to keep his consciousness awake while his body rots in the grave.  But all drugs have unforeseen side-effects.  Before he could be buried, the killer wakes up.  Hungry.  Infected.  Contagious.  This is the way the world ends.  Not with a bang…but a bite.

Horror| A – A |Gore, Language, Zombies | Life and Death

Initial Thoughts Before Reading:

Okay, okay. So a real zombie book this time. I’m expecting teeth and gore, nothing more. Chances of me getting a book that hits me in the feels is high tho. Because, zombies. I wonder if it’s a standalone, but I am not sure.

Initial Thoughts After Reading:

That wasn’t too bad.

Plot Overview:

The novel begins with a mortuary doctor being bitten and changed into a monster. Dez and JT, are called to check out a call of a break in and find a big mess of blood. Dez is attacked by a woman, and by the time back up shows up, the bodies are all gone. They try to investigate but one by one people start to fall.

Billy Trout, Dez’s old boyfriend, is a news reporter, goes with his friend to investigate more. They find out the source of the infection and what happened.

The national guard is called the United States is on high alert. Dez and JT are separated and she has to get to her Gun supply. She meets up with Billy who was trying to save her, and meet back up with JT. They find survivors in a school. And try to get the govt to help them. The govt sends apaches. They shoot up the town and then the school but because the story is streaming live. They negotiate to get only the infected and bitten out. JT was bitten and he dies. The survivors are saved.

However the quarantine failed and the first zombie (who was pretty sentient) got out and attacks the next county.

What I Liked:

Source of the apocalypse. It seems possible with the drug and military collusion.

Pretty accurate response. Like the people wanted to ignore it, but once they did, they went all out in the killing of the zombies.

What I Would Have Liked or Changed:

How long it took everyone to realize. Coulda saved more lives if they were taking care of the dead bodies the way they had to from the beginning.

Rating: 3/5
